Could Baby Dolls That Look Real
Be Part of Your Family?
You have to look at the wide
range available at Ashton-Drake
Galleries!
More and more people
are welcoming baby dolls that look
real into their families. These
high-quality so-called "reborn dolls" have grown
enormously in popularity since they started
in the early 1990s.
These are not the sort of dolls you might
have grown up with; they are real life-like
baby dolls - so life-like that people often
mistake them for real babies. If you look at
the photographs, or have the good fortune to
see one "in the flesh", you may not actually
believe that you are simply seeing real-looking
baby dolls and not a
real baby.
Emmy So
Realistic Baby Doll So Truly
Real
Collectors of Baby Reborns come from
all groups of the population, and from all
around the world, as these dolls are
highly collectible; but their
collectibility is not the only reason why
people accept these real-looking baby
dolls into their homes, and I'll get onto
that below.
The skill and artistry needed to make these
dolls is astounding. The babies are carefully
built piece by piece, layer by layer, until the
skin is precisely the right texture; sometimes
they are a remodelling of an original vinyl
doll. Then high-quality paints are used to
provide a natural-looking color - complete with
slight blemishes, skin bloom, and other
features even down to minute details such as
veins, fingernails, and intricate roughness of
their lips.

Collectible Life Like Baby
Reborn
The creators of these works of art
use various materials such as beads, ball
bearings, or sand to provide just the
right weight and heft to the baby's body.
Many of
the realistic babies have their eyes
closed, but those who are awake have
highly-detailed glass eyes. Their hair is
usually individually rooted so that even
the closest inspection does not reveal
that the baby's hair is not real.
Some reborn babies even have a small
internal machine that causes the baby's chest
to rise and fall, making it look like it is
breathing. Some even have the head or limbs
move a little, giving the impression of
dreaming while it is asleep!
And don't be fooled into thinking that all
of the cute reborn dolls are little girls --
there are boy
baby dolls, and there are lifelike dolls
that are certainly babies, but have certainly
been at home for several months!
It's Not
Easy Being Cute!
All of this intense attention to
detail works to give the baby the
incredibly real appearance that their
owners are looking for. The owners of reborn
dolls are more than simply collectors.
Some buy the dolls because they are works
of art and the result of hours and hours
of workmanship; some collect them in the
expectation that they will increase in
value; and some love their reborns as they
would a real baby.
Reborn baby dolls have been found to have a
real therapeutic value if you have lost a child
for example in a miscarriage. You should not
buy a reborn doll for someone else who has lost
a child in tragic circumstances, but it is a
fact that many owners do find great strength
and comfort in transforming their pain and loss
into the more rewarding form of caring and
love.
One thing is certain: having a reborn baby
doll as part of your family and it will not
only be a great conversation piece but also a
fantastic, never-ending source of pleasure
for you.
